'Ideas worth spreading'-Reportage drawing at TEDxTilburg
Updated: Jan 2, 2020
TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.
TEDxTilburg took place in the magnificent LocHal in Tilburg, and consisted of 15 minute talks, music performances and workshops. As in-house urban sketcher, I created a live documentation of the day's events in the form of on location drawings. My remit was to record what I saw and do my best to conjure the atmosphere of the conference itself.
To create an ongoing series of drawings, I used a 'concertina style' album containing one sheet of paper folded into individual accordion pages. Watch the video further below to see how the series was presented during the day.
I had so much fun experiencing the magic of people of exchanging ideas in this way. Many thanks to Sem Henneman from RAUW Graphic Design for the nice photos!
